FAQ

How do you pronounce XOTO?

ex-OH-toe

2.You think having the fun of a motorcycle with the stability of 3 wheels sounds awesome. (It is.)

3.You realize that XOTO would be perfect for so many of your quick trips. (Or even to work.)

4.You’re tired of being stuck in traffic, and you don’t love public transportation.

5.You’re sick of paying that much money (!) for gas. (We are, too.)

6.You’d love to find easier, closer places to park.

7.You think bicycles kind of suck (unless you’re strictly riding them for the workout—yay cardio!).

8.You’re interested in an electric vehicle, but cars are too expensive.

9.You like affordable, practical, comfortable, well-made, eco-friendly solutions in general.

10.You’re a stylish, forward-thinking trendsetter. (Of course.)

WHY ARE THREE WHEELS BETTER THAN TWO?

Two wheeled motorcycles and bicycles work great, until they don’t. If you hit that patch of gravel, the wrong pothole, or the rain puddle, things can go bad very quickly.

With three wheels on the ground, you can lose traction on all wheels and have a much stronger chance of staying upright, thus avoiding a crash.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO LEAN?

When you’re going around a turn on our 3-wheeled self-stabilizing vehicle, leaning allows you to keep your center of gravity in the angle of the turn. Meaning: you can make the turn at a higher speed without pulling a wheel up off the road, losing your balance, and falling over. Without the ability to lean, you have to take those corners pretty slowly and carefully. Not only is leaning safer for the rider, it’s a lot more fun!

HOW FAR CAN XOTO LEAN?

XOTO can lean more than 45 degrees, which means you can do more stable turns at higher or lower speeds. The amount of lean you’re capable of doing is effectively your speed limit for any turns you can do. However, never forget that you can also experience the joys of leaning at lower speeds too. (Please drive responsibly.)

IS IT HARD TO LEARN TO RIDE AN XOTO SCOOTER?

Most people get the hang of it very quickly since leaning into a turn is so intuitive. The important thing to remember is to trust the vehicle and lean in. Because the stabilizing mechanism is working to keep you up, you have to lean a little bit more than you are used to doing on a two wheeled vehicle.

CAN I CARRY A PASSENGER OR CARGO?

You can carry passengers, boxes, bags, or anything else you can strap to the back. (But let’s agree not to strap down your passengers…you can just let them prop their feet on the handy and comfortable passenger pegs 😊)

On XOTO’s 3 wheels, it’s actually easier to balance people or cargo on the back than it is on a 2-wheeled vehicle. The only restriction is that you need to keep the total weight under 350 pounds.

What are XOTO’s riding modes?

XOTO has 3 speed modes: Low (1), Medium (2), and High (3). Mode 1 limits your top speed to about 20 MPH, and Mode 3 gets you to 45 MPH.

You can set the modes according to road conditions as a safety precaution. Also, if you’re a beginning rider, you can learn on Mode 1 so you don’t go too fast before you‘re ready. As you gain more skill, you can switch to full power.

ARE THE BATTERIES REPLACEABLE?

Yes. We’ve built this scooter in a modular way to allow for the longest possible lifespan. The battery is fully replaceable and you’ll be able to buy spares on our website and upgrade easily as new technology becomes available.

To dive into the details a little more, our Battery Management System (BMS) is constantly monitoring the battery to make sure it stays happy and healthy in all environments and states of performance. That alone will extend the life of your battery considerably.

CAN I CHARGE THE BATTERIES OUTSIDE THE XOTO?

Yes! The batteries slide right out of their slots and the charger can be plugged into a standard wall outlet.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHARGE A BATTERY?

According to our current battery manufacturer, it takes about 5 hours to completely charge a battery from absolute zero power. However, most people won’t be riding 40-45 miles in a day, meaning that their batteries won’t be as depleted, and it will take less time to charge.

DO I NEED A MOTORCYCLE LICENSE TO RIDE?

In California, because XOTO has 3 wheels, all you need is a valid California driver’s license to ride. Otherwise, it depends on your local rules. Please reach out to us with the state you’re in and we’ll help you find out what you need to do to ride.

This information is provided as a general reference. It should not be considered legal advice. Laws and regulations are subject to change. Always consult local authorities to determine state law vehicle classification and licensing requirements. XOTO recommends wearing a helmet and protective clothing at all times while operating motorized vehicles.

Can you tell me about the batteries?

XOTO comes with an advanced modular lithium-ion battery that gives you a 45-mile range on one charge (based on industry testing).

You have the option to purchase a second battery (that you can keep on board) which doubles your range, up to 90 miles. With the included charger, batteries charge on normal household electrical outlets (no special charging station), in 3-5 hours. Because they’re removable, it will be easy to upgrade when newer batteries become available.
